Dorus Arts was born in 1901 in Bergharen. He is considerd to be a follower of the Hague School. He painted mostly polder landscapes, fields with cattle and beach scapes with fishing men and bomschuiten (ship). In 1955 he emigrated to Canada where he died in 1961 in Montreal. His pupils were Jan Schouten and Petran Vermeulen.
