The Dutch painter Jan van Empel often worked in abstraction with a tendency towards still-life and later figurative work, always using colour as an important means of expression. The artist studied at the Academy of The Hague and Amsterdam, and lived abroad in Paris for one year (1953-1954) to master his craft.
