- About the artistCatherine Nelson is an Australian artist, living in Belgium and the Netherlands, who uses digital technology as her paintbrush creating landscape ‘paintings’ and animations.
Her photographic practice arose from the combination of a degree in fine art from Sydney’s College of Fine Arts and her subsequent cinema work in creating visual effects for films such as Moulin Rouge, Harry Potter and Baz Luhrmann’s Australia.
With the eye of a painter and years of experience in special effects, Nelson’s focus back on her own practice in 2008 has resulted in her developing compelling and meticulously composed photo composite artworks that seduce and confound the viewer.
In 2012 Nelson was selected as the winner of the Gallery NOW Artist Award in Seoul, South Korea. In 2010 she was shortlisted for the Royal Bank of Scotland Emerging Artist Award, also winning the Client Choice Award in the same prize. Her works have captured the attention of photography collectors worldwide with works in collections in Europe, Asia, USA and Australia.
