    This oil painting was depicted on the invitation card of the exhibition of Paul Hugo ten Hoopen at gallery Charlotte Daneel (1990).
    Paul Hugo ten Hoopen (1927) is a painter, watercolourist and essayist. For many years he worked as a professor of drawing at the 'Rijksacademie' in Amsterdam.
    Figuration in his landscapes and interiors is abstracted and reduced to the essentials.
    His works were created in France and Switzerland, and are determined by a simple palette of green, blue, yellow and red.

  • About the artist

    Paul Hugo ten Hoopen was born in Doetinchem, The Netherlands, in 1927. Ten Hoopen is a painter, draftsman, watercolourist and essayist. He was educated at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Amsterdam and the Schule des Sehens - Oskar Kokoschka in Salzburg as well. During the years of 1969-1992, ten Hoopen was a professor at the National Acadamy of Art in Amsterdam himself. Currentyl, he is a member of the Dutch Watercolourist Circle, The Keerkring, and Arti and Amicitiae.

    From ca. 1960 onwards, Ten Hoopen has held countless solo- and group exhibitions. He has won a trio of awards as wel: the Kokoschka Award in Salzburg in 1958; the Grant for Travel of the Ministry of O. K. & W in 1965; the Jeanne Bieruma-Oosting Award for figurative painting in 1986.

    His work kan be admired in museums such as the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, Museum Henriëtte Polak Zutphen, Het Rijk, in areas surrounding Amsterdam, Amstelveen, Venlo and Zeist, and in the ABN-Amro Bank building. His work can be seen in multiple private collections in the Netherlands and abroad as well.
