Pat Andrea (1942) also known as Gustaaf Hein Andrea was educated at the Royal Academy in The Hague by Co Westerink as his teacher. Together with Peter Nobbe and Walter Blokhuis he founded the ABN-group, which stands for Andrea, Blokhuis and Nobbe group, they were known as the New Hague School. Andrea is known for his fascination for Argentine woman, he visited Argentina several times in his life. His artworks are figurative and a common theme in his paintings is fear. The objects on the paintings are not in proportion, for example women with big heads and small bodies or body parts missing.
Andrea is a classical painter, he first does a pre-study before he starts to paint on the panel or canvas. Some parts of his paintings are painted with opaque layers of paint, but on other parts you can still see the pre-study or only the first layer of paint. The subjects on his paintings are women, men, dogs and horses in movement.
Until recently he was a professor at École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris.
