- About the artworkA FRIENDSHIP Goblet.
A baluster stem with two knops. Funnel shaped bowl with wheelengraving of two medallions, surrounded by flowers.
The front medallion with Kind David and Jonathan. King David with helmet and lyre, Jonathan with helmet and shield,
shaking hands. The reverse medallion with the inscription: "GLICK DESE TWE BESTAAN MOET ONSE TROWE GAAN. DAVID EEN JONATHAN"
Inscription probably by a Bohemian travelling glass engraver.
David and Jonathan represent homosexual - platonic? - love.
There are several examples in the Rijksmuseum.
Clear colourless glass.
Height: 17 cm.
Conical folded foot.
