Ellen Bottenheim Niemer is a Dutch artist who was born in Abcoude on 21 January 1911. From 1936 to 1947 she stayed in Brussels where she was apprenticed to the sculptress Moussia. In this period she created various sculptures which unfortunately got lost in 1944. Back in Amsterdam, she resumed her activities in Jos Rovers’ studio, an old teacher active at the Rijksacademie in Spain. She was inspired by Goethe’s poetry.
