  • About the artwork
    "I paint without a plan, and try to surprise myself in subject and execution. I am familiar with tradition and craftsmanship, but to do something new with it. For me there are three goals in a painting , the imagination of the subject - the picture - must match in color and shape. Secondly, "the paint skin" must be interesting, and actually tell another underground story and thirdly the person who is looking must have the feeling that there is more to discover in the painting, in meaning, references, associations, etc. "

    “Ik schilder zonder vooropgezet plan, en probeer mezelf te verrassen in onderwerp en uitvoering. Ik hecht wel aan traditie en vakmanschap, maar wel om er iets nieuws mee te doen. Er zijn drie doelen in een schilderij bij mij, de verbeelding van het onderwerp - het plaatje - moet kloppen in kleur en vorm,ten tweede moet “de verfhuid “ interessant zijn, en eigenlijk nog een ander, ondergronds verhaal vertellen,en ten derde moet je als kijker geraakt worden maar ook het gevoel hebben dat er nog meer in het schilderij - aan betekenis,verwijzingen, associaties e.d.- te ontdekken is. “
  • About the artist

    Klaas Werumeus Buning is a Dutch painter. He went to the Vrije Academie, The Hague from 1983 to 1985 and to the Royal Academy of Fine Arts, The Hague from 1987 to 1992. He then settled in Friesland, a northern province of the Netherlands, where he was influenced by his colleagues who went to the Minerva academy in Groningen. He still is active as a painter and is influenced by the rural setting of his atelier. He specializes in painting flowers and landscapes and also paints portraits and still lives.
