About the Artist
Johannes (Jos) Lussenburg was a Dutch self-taught painter. Originally he was professional musician. When his career as violin player ended because of an infection of his finger, he took up painting on advice of his wife. His grandfather was a professional fisherman. Many of Lussenburg’s paintings show the rough waves and fishing sailing boats of the Zuiderzee. He also painted portraits, of old fishermen, farmers, beggars, and himself.
