Pieter van den Daele (1970) is a Belgium sculptor who took painting classes in Oudenaarde. He started to work at an art foundry in 2000, where he learned the techniques to make sculptors. In 2003 he began to sculpture bronze animals. Van den Daele was inspired by the underwater world, when he was younger he used to fish with his friends and this is where his fascination began. He combines his two passions for fish and making sculptures in his artworks. He makes his original models out of organic materials, such as wood, leafs and leather. Using these materials for the models makes the fish skin look very realistic. He likes to compare his artworks with fossils, he captures his fish in eternity, just like fossils do.
