About the artist

Yuina Wada was born in Gifu, Japan in 1989. Wada is known for painting extremely colourful compositions, influenced by Japanese manga and anime. These influences can also be found in the works of Takashi Murakami and Ayako Rokkaku.

Yuina Wada also draws inspiration from the Japanese Harajuku-fashion, expressed by the girls who, with their bright-coloured clothing, have become a tourist attraction in Tokyo. Wada introduces us with her art to a secret, parallel world, full of magical stories and figures.

For as long as she can remember Wada has been drawing and painting. She graduated from the Academy of Arts in Japan and since then dedicates all her time to her art. She works between Amsterdam and Japan. Wada developed a unique technique and uses mixed media to create her works. Layer before layer she works with great precision. A labour intensive method; a large painting will take up to two full months from beginning to end. The bright colours and detailed lines are only seen with the naked eye and even the best camera is not able to register these details and colours.

'I loved drawing and painting from childhood. I came to love bright colors and shiny materials from about 14 years old. I have been studied the way to paint with them. And I think about the world of mind. I want to paint about that.'
