About the artist

Jan Willem Rädecker was born on January 12, 1924, in the Dutch city of Schoor. He was both a son and apprentice of John Rädecker, a renowned Dutch sculptor. John was commissioned the National Monument on the Amsterdam Dam square, but since he passed away before he could finish it, his sons Han and Jan completed the creation.

Although the monument is designed in classical style, later works of Jan’s was of more abstract kind. In 2004 his work was displayed in a temporary exhibition in Museum Kranenburgh in the Dutch Bergen, called sculptures of Bergen. Two of his more abstract works are still on display in the museum garden. Jan passed away in 2009, on March 17th.
