About the artist

Salomon Garf was born in Amsterdam on 6 December 1879, he died in Auschwitz on 27 Augustus 1943. He was a painter, etcher, draughtsman, and lithographer, specializing in interiors, still lifes and landscapes. He lived and worked in Amsterdam and Antwerpen. Between 1905 and 1914 he settled in Laren N.H and from 1914 onwards he lived in Amsterdam. He studied at the Quellinusschool, Rijksschool voor Kunstnijverheid and Rijksacademie in Amsterdam. In 1914 he was awarded the Willink van Collenprijs. He was a member of “Arti et Amicitiae” and “St. Lucas” in Amsterdam. He taught E. van Gelder, D. Isselman, C.A.C.A.M. baron van Lamsweerde, G. Smith, A.J.C. Wulfse and M.C. Zelander. His work is included in the collection of Singer Museum Laren and Joods Historisch Museum, Amsterdam.
