About the artist

Lucien Adrion (1889, Strasbourg, France – 1953, Cologne, France) was a French painter, draftsman, and printmaker, known for his depictions of the French countryside and beaches, and Parisian life. Adrion started his career as a fashion draftsman. Thereafter he travelled widely around Europe, developing other artistic pursuits. During World War I, he stayed in Berlin where he was taught to the art of engraving by Hermann Struck. After the war Adrion returned to France and eventually moved to Paris, where he had his first major exhibition at the Salon des Indépendants in 1926. Throughout his career, Adrion continued exhibiting his work at Salons in Paris, where his paintings were praised for their ability to capture the movement and transience of urban life. He exhibited e.g. at the Salon d’Automne in 1940, and the Salon des Tuileries in 1941. Adrion eventually left Paris to settle in Normandy, where he began applying himself to landscapes.
