Louis Thevenet (1874, Bruges, Belgium - 1930, Halle, Belgium), full name Louis François Joseph Marie Tevenet, was a self-taught Belgian artist. From 1876 to 1916 he lived in Brussels. Since then he lived and worked at Halle, Belgium. Thevenet worked with oil on canvas, but he also was an aquarellist and draughtsman. After several occupations he decided to become a painter in 1896. Along with Charles Dehoy, Auguste Oleffe, Willem Paerels and Fernand Schirren he founded the art society Labeur in 1903. In 1908, he married Emma Tevels. During his lifetime he was underestimated in Halle and lived in poverty. Nowadays he is very celebrated for his still-lifes and interior paintings. Thevenet was an unworldly and eccentric person. He made three world tours and stayed several times in Paris, where he also exhibited at the Salon des Indépendents in 1906, and at the Salon d’Automne in 1909. In Belgium he had many expositions in Brussels, Antwerp, Halle, Deurle, Beerse and Knokke. Thevenet is often ranged among the Brabant Fauvists.
