About the artist

Les Deux Garçons is the name of an artists’ workshop, set up by Michel Vanderheijden van Tinteren (1965, Heerlen) and Roel Moonen (1966), both graduated from the Academy of Visual Arts in Maastricht in Plastic Design. Since 2000 they work together in their Atelier Les Deux Garçons in Landgraaf (Province of Limburg). This studio is a centre of extensive activity. Always looking for the best choice of materials and striving after perfect finishing strokes, they create collages, bronze statues, free-style assemblages and, very prominent, sculptures of taxidermy. These are absurdist,- sometimes morbidly - humorous sculptures from materials they find at taxidermists and antique dealers. In 2008, they had their first exhibition, entitled L’Adieu impossible, at Jaski Art Gallery, Amsterdam. In 2009, they had their second show, La Fragilité, and two years later, in 2011, they presented L’Éphémère tangible. Les Deux Garçons participated in the celebrated design fair Salone del Mobile in Milan, and they also exhibited among others at the Hague Gemeentemuseum (2015) and TEFAF Maastricht (2015). Some of their works are included in the collections of the ceramic Museum Prinsessenhof Leeuwarden. Choreographer Naninne Linning invited the artists to design costumes and sculptures for her successful show Requiem.
