About the artist
Johannes van Bronckhorst was a painter, working during the Dutch Golden Age, born in 1648. Johannes learned to paint from his father, who sadly died when the boy was just thirteen years of age. After this, Johannes was sent to work in a bakery in Haarlem. He had a passion for drawing on the side, but when he moved back to Hoorn to get married, his drawing activities became of more professional kind. Bronckhorst specialized in painting plants, birds and insects. Bronckhorst died in 1727.
