About the artist

Jean Louis De Marne was a French painter who was born in Brussels in 1752.
He had a variety of qualifications, amongst many things he was a painter, an etcher, and illustrator.
De Marne was educated at the Académie Royale de Peinture et de Sculpture in Paris.
He worked in Paris from 1765, where he moved to at the age of 12 with his mother from Brussels, until 1829. But in between these years he also worked in Switzerland in 1783 with his friend and fellow painter Antoine Taunay And in Sèvres from 1809 until 1813.
De Marne died in Batignolles, Paris on the 24th of March in 1829.
