Jean-Léon Gérôme

Jean-Léon Gérôme was a French painter and sculptor. His oeuvre included historical painting, Greek mythology, Orientalism, portraits, and other subjects, bringing the academic painting tradition to an artistic climax. He is considered to be one of the most important painters from the academic period, influenced by the standards of the French Académie des Beaux-Arts, which practiced under the movements of Neoclassicism and Romanticism.
