Jan Vrolijk (1846, The Hague – 1894, The Hague), full name Johannes Martinus Vrolijk, was a Duch painter, aquarellist and etcher. He was taught to paint by Pieter Stortenbeker and by his elder brother Adrianus Jacobus Vrolijk, who for his part had been apprenticed to the famous and sought-after painter and teacher Andreas Schelfhout.  He studied at the Academie van Beeldende Kunsten (Academy of Fine Arts) The Hague. His subjects were pasture landscapes with cattle, farms, animals, portraits. His way work shows affinity with Willem Maris. Vrolijk lived and worked in The Hague and Rijswijk. He was a member of the Literary Association De Witte and a member of Pulchri Studio in The Hague.
