About the artist

Jan van Vuuren was a Dutch artist, born in Molenaarsgraaf in 1871. He died in Elburg in 1941. He was apprenticed to the art teacher R. Larij at a young age. Later, he went to the Haagse Academy voor Beeldende Kunsten (State Academy of Fine Arts) and he also studied under the Amsterdam painter G.W. Dijsselhof. In 1896 he became a member of the art society Pulchri-Studio in The Hague. In this period he travelled to the Veluwe, where he painted forests, water mills, harbours and villages of the Veluwe like Hattem, Harderwijk, Nunspeet and Elburg. In 1900 he married with Anna Margaretha Heijman who lived in Elburg. He always painted in a realistic style.
