About the artist
Jan Borreman was a top Flemish renaissance sculptor, active from 1479 to 1520 in Brussels. His flamboyant Gothic works were not only famous in the Netherlands but also in the Holy Roman Empire and Scandinavia, through the trade routes of the time. He has done statues, altarpieces and tombs for churches. A large number of altarpieces by Borreman can be found in Sweden, where cathedrals gave altarpieces attributed to his workshop.
