About the artist

Hermanns was a German painter from Düsseldorf that often worked in the Netherlands. He studied at the Academy of Art in Düsseldorf, tutored by German realistic painter Eugen Dücker. They would found the Lukas-club, later called ‘Freie Vereinigung Düsseldorfer Künstler’, an art association of artists who were clearly inspired by the Barbizon School and the Hague School. Hermanns painted landscapes, seascapes and cityscapes in The Netherlands and Germany, tending more towards impressionistic and romantic cityscapes later in his life. While most of his works are in private ownership, his works can bee seen in multiple museums, including the Poesjkinmuseum in Moscow.
