About the artist

Harald Vlugt (1957, Bergen) is a Dutch sculptor, collagist and engraver. After finishing his art education in 1881 in Amsterdam he was one of the organizers of Gallery Aorta. During two or three years he worked along with Aldert Mantje. In 1983 both artists became member of the successful and avant-garde Gallery The Livingroom. In 1987 Vlugt and Mantje organized a special exhibtion, a survey and termination of their cooperation, in Museum Fodor in Amsterdam. Vlugt exhibited in many galleries and museums abroad, for instance Gallery Germans in New York City in 1985, Galerie Nikki Diana Marquardt in Paris in 1986, Musée d’Art Contemporain in Montreal in 1987. In 1988 he displayed sculptures at the Biennale of Venice. Afterwards he exhibited in Sao Paulo, New York, Cairo, Oranjestad Auckland Trinidad and Paris. In 1994 he received the Nationale Grafiekprijs (National Graphics Award). In 1994 he had a large solo exhibition Senses of reality in Schiedam. From 1995 to 2002 Vlugt cooperated with the Scottish sculptor David Mach. They built 18 ceramic constructions up to 36 meters high in the former Ajax football stadium in Amsterdam.Since 2003 Harald Vlugt produces 2- and 3-dimensional works of art for the three biggest cruiseship companies: Queen Mary 2, Freedom of the Seas, and Nieuw Amsterdam (Holland Amerika Lijn).
