About the artist

Giovanna Strada (1960, Italy) graduated with a degree from the Scuola Politecnica di Design in Milan, Italy. Among her professors the renowned Bruno Munari, Gaetano Kanizsa and Nino Di Salvatore. After her graduation she pursued a simultaneous career in industrial design as well as working as an autonomous artist. From the beginning her interest lies within design and concrete art, studying the visual perception based on Gestalt principles and psychological analysis. She experiments a lot with "virtual spaces", compositions of small paintings that interact with the space between them. Her recent work consist again of small paintings in black and white. Based on similarly shaped elements, Giovanna creates different configurations that lead to different identities of each painting. Single works invite the observer to study their structure and material use. Groups of works interact with each other and with the space between and around them and become true wall sculptures.

The work of Giovanna Strada has been shown in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Italy and abroad and is part of many private collections. She was a 2016 nominee for the 4th International Evard-Art Award for constructive and concrete art.
