About the artist

Was a typical Rotterdam painter. He was a pupil at the Academie voor Beeldende Kunsten te Rotterdam between 1901-1904. He was a pupil of Jan de Jong, Ferdinand Oldewelt and Jan Striening. His works are considered to be the Late Hague School, second generation. Altmann worked from 1904-1940. Mostly he painted polder landscapes with cows and sheeps; other subjects are harbour scapes, portraits, still lifes and interiors.
Most of his works are on canvas but he produced as well some works on paper.
His works can be considered to be impressionistic.
He was a member of Maatschappij Arti et Amicitiae Amsterdam.
