About the artist

Georges-Lucien Guyot was born in Paris and is considered as one of the greatest animaliers of the 20th century.
After World War One, he sets up his studio at the Bateau-Lavoir known as the « Art Temple » of the beginning of the 20th century and will not leave the place until he is compelled to due to its destruction by fire in 1970. As soon as 1920, his works of art are being showed at the greatest Parisian art fairs. From an early age, Georges Guyot demonstrated artistic abilities, but his parents’ modest conditions did not allow him to study art. He was apprenticed to a wood carver. Guyot excelled in copying works of the fifteenth, sixteenth, and seventeenth centuries, but very quickly he showed an attraction for nature. Always wandering along the Jardin des Plantes, he restlessly studies the anatomy and postures of each of his subjects. During his entire life he made sculptures of animals and paintings.
