About the artist

Fred Bervoets (Burcht, Zwijndrecht, Belgium, 1942) is a Belgian painter, draughtsman and engraver. He studied at the Koninklijke Academie voor Schone Kunsten in Antwerp and at the Hoger Instituut voor Schone kunsten. As a student he was honored with the Laurent Meeus prize (1961), the Camiel Huysmans prize (1963), and he was a laureate of ‘300 years Academy’ (1964). Bervoets’ work is not homogeneous and has no continuity. He shows many different periods. He was influenced among others by Cobra, Neo-Expressionism and Nieuwe Wilden (German: Neue Wilde). His works are permanently exhibited in Galerij De Zwarte Panter, Antwerp.
