About the artist

Elizabeth Swinburne is a British glass artist. She went to the Rietveld Academy, Amsterdam from 1981 to 1983. She began her studies working with ceramics but a short introduction to glass blowing quickly enticed her away. Since her graduation in 1983 her work has been exhibited through Europe, the United States, South America and Japan, in international collections such as the Boijmand van Beuningen Museum in Rotterdam and Victoria & Albert Museum in London.
In 2005 she was awarded the Joel Philip Myers prize at the International Exhibition of Glass, Kanazawa.
Over the last twenty years she has held key academic posts in the UK and the Netherlands; she was Senior Tutor for glass at the Royal College of Art in London, and from 2000 to 2003 was Coordinator of glass at the Rietveld Academy. From 1998 to 2003 she was the Artistic and Technical director of North Lands Creative Glass, a private glass school in the north of Scotland.
Swinburne is on the Advisory Board of Ebeltoft Glass Museum, Denmark and the Board of Directors of G.A.S., the international, American based, society of glass artists and collectors.
