Douwe de Hoop was a Dutch artist who was born in Workum on 24 March 1800, he died in Amsterdam on 27 October 1830. He was a painter and draughtsman, specializing in still lifes and genre pieces. He was apprenticed to the painter Joost Zeeman. Thereafter he studied under Cornelis Kruseman in Amsterdam. In this period he also studied at the Amsterdam art academy.

De Hoop created genre paintings, portraits and still lifes. He belonged to the group of painters, specializing in candlelight subjects. He taught P. Kiers. He exhibited in Amsterdam between 1818 and 1828. His work is included in the collection of Rijksprentenkabinet and Teylers Stichting Haarlem.
