About the artist

Adolf Breetvelt, also called Dolf Breetvelt, was a visual artist born in Delft on 31 December 1892, he died in Amstelveen on 20 May 1975. He went to the Koninklijke Academie in The Hague. He became a drawing teacher in the Dutch East Indies in 1920. In 1938 he returned to the Netherlands. In 1949 He became a member of the movement Vereniging Vrij Beelden (later called Liga Nieuw Beelden) which included the artists Piet Ouborg, Walter Spies and Hans Ittman. In the same year, he also created his first abstract paintings. He also participated in various group exhibitions in museum Fodor and became a public figure in the Amsterdam art world. In 1963 he had a solo exhibition in museum Fodor.
