According to stories a friend of him asked him to take an x-ray of his painting. Stunned by the result Van ’t Riet started to think of other ways to use this technique for creative projects.

He turned his attention to nature. Flora and fauna fascinate Arie van ’t Riet. He adds light colours to the images making them look like delicate ink pictures on silk paper. He calls his work ‘bioramas’
