About the artist

Aad de Haas is a Dutch sculptor, graphic artist and painter. Most of his artworks are in a expressionist figurative style.
De Haas survived the bombardment of Rotterdam in 1940. During the German occupation in 1942 his work was considered to be entarted (degenerated art) and the artist was imprisoned by the German occupiers during six months. In 1944 he could flee to Limburg and he remained there until his death in 1972. In 1949 he received from the Kunstenaarsverzet 1942-1945 (Dutch Artists Resistance) the Prijs van de stichting Kunstenaarsverzet.
